Celebrating Success: Allegra's Inspirational Alumni Day

At Allegra School Coffs Harbour we understand a little extra support, flexible learning opportunities in small classes and an environment free from prejudice can make a significant impact to a student's confidence, wellbeing and overall school experience.Allegra is a safe learning space for students who find studying and socialising in mainstream schools challenging. We welcome young people struggling with anxiety, depression or trauma, with neurodiversity (on the spectrum) or learning difficulties, who have experienced bullying or who identify as part of the rainbow community.

We believe a small school, makes a big difference. Allegra offers small classes in an adult learning environment. We prioritise personal growth, respectful relationships and instilling a sense of belonging. Allegra offers an inclusive and flexible learning environment tailored to support students in Years 9 & 10. The subjects are the same, it's the delivery that is different. Our goal is to provide young people with the opportunity to realise their potential on both academic and personal levels.

We are not an easy alternative. We are an opportunity to reset, reinvent and refresh your academic and personal goals and provide a support network to assist you working towards those goals. Our students are carefully selected, those willing to commit to bettering themselves while being supportive of others are more likely to be enrolled. While Allegra has a range of support services to assist students with barriers to learning, we do not offer one-on-one behaviour intervention or high levels of behaviour modification.

As an independent school we are a member of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW and our aim is to offer all eligible young people the chance to grow and mature while undertaking their high school education in a safe and supportive environment. At Allegra we seek to include those young people whose lives may be complicated, challenging or require a particular understanding in order to achieve success.

Allegra Alumni Event: A Day of Inspiration and Success

On Friday, 7th June, Allegra hosted an alumni event, bringing together past students to share their experiences and wisdom with current students. The day commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country by Sophie, followed by a welcome from our Principal, Erin Caceda. Dany Alarab then introduced the significance of the event and our alumni speakers: Atlas Domberelli, Blue Jordan, Matilda Campbell, and Struan Campbell.

The alumni speeches began with each speaker sharing their journey and how Allegra played a role in shaping their lives. Atlas Domberelli kicked off with an engaging talk, followed by Blue Jordan, Matilda Campbell, and Struan Campbell, each providing unique insights and stories that resonated with the students.

The highlight of the event was the Q&A session, where students had the opportunity to ask the alumni thought-provoking questions. The interaction was lively and informative, as students Archie, Violet, Caleb, Eden, Liam, Amelia, Tyla, Seb, and Angela inquired about life after Allegra, career advice, and valuable lessons learned.

Here are some of the memorable quotes from our students:

  • "It was inspirational and eye-opening listening to the alumni. I’m planning to keep studying after I finish Year 10 and hearing Matilda and Blue talk about their different study choices was really helpful and gave me confidence about my future." - Tyla

  • "It was really interesting because the alumni all chose different career options after Allegra. I’m still not sure what I will do when I leave school but it was good to hear from former students about the choices I have in Coffs Harbour and away." - Archie

After the Q&A session, Danielle Free presented the alumni with award certificates and gifts as a token of appreciation from Allegra and our students. The applause and gratitude expressed highlighted the strong bond between past and present Allegra students.

Following the formal event, staff and alumni mingled in the common area while enjoying lunch. Students joined them shortly after for afternoon tea.

We extend our thanks to Danielle Free for organising this event, to our students who asked insightful questions, and to our alumni who generously gave their time to inspire our future leaders. Without Danielle's dedication and effort, this event would not have been possible. Her hard work ensured a memorable day that will leave a lasting impact on all who attended.

The event concluded with a warm farewell to our alumni, and students filled with new aspirations and a renewed sense of purpose.

Thank you to everyone who made this day a success. We look forward to more events that connect our community and inspire our students.
